What is Diabetes
Diabetes is a long-term health condition where your body has trouble controlling blood sugar (glucose) levels.
There are two main types:
-
Type 1 Diabetes:
The body’s immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, so very little or no insulin is made. Insulin is the hormone that helps sugar get from the blood into cells. -
Type 2 Diabetes:
The body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or doesn’t use it properly. This is the most common form, often linked with being overweight or inactive.
Common Symptoms:
Frequent urination
-
Increased thirst and hunger
-
Fatigue
-
Slow wound healing
-
Blurred vision
1. Healthy Eating
-
Eat more fiber: vegetables, whole grains, lentils.
-
Limit sugar and refined carbs: avoid sweets, white bread, sugary drinks.
-
Control portion size to avoid overeating.
2. Regular Exercise
-
At least 30 minutes of walking, cycling, or swimming 5 days a week.
-
Exercise helps improve insulin sensitivity.
3. Weight Management
-
Losing even 5–10% of body weight can help control type 2 diabetes.
4. Stress Management
-
Practice yoga, meditation, or breathing exercises.
-
High stress can raise blood sugar levels.
5. Regular Monitoring
-
Check blood sugar levels as advised by a doctor.
6. Natural/Home Remedies (supportive, not replacement for medical advice):
-
Bitter gourd juice.
-
Fenugreek seeds.
-
Cinnamon in small amounts.
7. Medication or Insulin
-
As prescribed by a doctor. Don’t skip doses.
Important: Always consult a healthcare professional before trying home remedies, especially if you’re already on medication.
